Cloudscapes at the Venice Biennale

Japanese Studio Kondo Architects and environmental engineering firm Transsolar have collaborated to create an installation in the Arsenale Exhibition Space at the Venice Architecture Biennale. And it is just amazing.

Called ‘Cloudscapes’, it is created by pumping three layers of air into the space: cold, dry air at the bottom; hot, humid air in the middle; and hot, dry air at the top. A ramp that spirals up and down through the space allows the viewer to engage with the vapour, and appreciate it at all heights.

It is truly, truly amazing how the most inspiring and beautiful ideas, are quite often the simplest.

Below is a clip of an interview with Mattias Schuler from Transsolar and Tetsuo Kondo from Kondo Architects, where Schuler speaks about sustainable design and collaborating with big name architects such as Zaha Hadid. Make sure you watch it! It’s brilliant!
